July '26 Cancer New Moon: Full Breakdown!
Hello beautiful souls, happy New Moon! This Lunar Cycle is all about the wheel of personal growth- introspection, the actions that follow, the effect that has on your community, the proceeding introspection, and so on. Let’s dive into it.
The Cancer New Moon, Explained
In order to fully understand what new cycle is being initiated this Cancer New Moon, we must go over the previous Lunar Cycle which brought us here. As I shared in my June ‘26 Astro Guide, “The [6/14] Gemini New Moon showed us why we need to honor our truth and the truth- the [6/29] Capricorn Full Moon [was] here to show us how.” As Mother Moon moved through Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, and Gemini, she showed us what needs to change, as well as how to change, so that we can move in truth within our network, dreams, pursuits, material life, and communication. Given that Cancer is the Moon’s domicile, this is when the illuminations of the last couple weeks land home within us. If you haven't started upon the changes you have been guided to make over the last month, now is when that process becomes unavoidable.
Mercury is still stationed Retrograde in Cancer, and is conjunct this New Moon alongside the Sun. Mercury’s entire Retrograde has been synchronistic with the Moon since the Gemini New Moon that was on June 14th. “When Mercury [entered] Pre-Retrograde Shadow on June 12th, we [began] reflecting on our part in [falsehoods, emotional illusions, and outdated relationships as well as environments in our life]. With Gemini being the sign of the student, the New Moon on the 14th [marked] the beginning of a six week period which [has thrust] us into intense, emotional, personal transformation. By the time the Full Moon in Capricorn [rolled] in at the end of June, we [were slapped into taking] accountability and responsibility for the changes we must take.” (from my June ‘26 Astro Guide). With Mercury Retrograde conjunct the New Moon and the Sun, the reflective illuminations we’ve been shown over the last month are on full display, at the forefront, inescapable.
As soon as the Moon ingresses into Leo, she conjoins Jupiter and joins an already active, three month long Grand Cradle. This Grand Cradle is off the back of the Jupiter-Pluto Retrograde opposition, with Neptune Retrograde and Uranus as the apexes. It has been active since Jupiter entered Leo on June 30th, and will stay active through August 15th, right around the Leo Solar Eclipse. Jupiter in Leo asks are we expanding our personal fire. Pluto Retrograde in Aquarius demands that this expansion serves collective evolution and the greater good. The visionary pioneering and clarity of Neptune Retrograde in Aries, as well as the innovative electricity of Uranus in Gemini, bridges the gap of the Jupiter-Pluto Rx opposition by giving us ample opportunities to discover and explore how we can fulfill our role in the ongoing collective rebirth through our strengths and vitality.
With the New Moon conjunct Jupiter, there is a hyper-focus on those truth-aligned shifts I mentioned. Specifically, are we ready to boldly stand in our power knowing our worth and what we have to offer, and how we feel called to share our light? If not, how can we get there?
This sets the tone for the entire month as we reach the peak of the Uranus-Pluto trine and the peak of the aforementioned three month long Grand Cradle, all re-activated by the Aquarius Full Moon at the end of the month. Whatever seed is planted this New Moon will come full circle by the end of the month.
Here’s where we get to the alchemization and manifestation of all this intense, growth centered energy. Since July 13th, there has been a powerhouse of a Grand Kite active. A Grand Kite is a high-functioning manifestation engine. It possesses a Grand Trine which provides the stabilizing power, and an opposition (the spine) which creates the tension necessary to get that harmony off the ground and into reality.
The base of this Grand Kite is a conjunction between Venus and the South Node in Virgo, stirring up nostalgia, past memories, outdated habits, perfectionism and harsh critique. The apex, opposing the base, is the North Node in Pisces. While the Venus-South Node conjunction in Virgo strives for swift perfection, the North Node in Pisces asks us to surrender to the journey instead of focusing on the destination. The wings of this Kite are Lilith in Capricorn and Chiron in Taurus. Lilith is the wild, untamed feminine force standing in her sacred power. In Capricorn, she is reclaiming her right to build, lead, and command without asking for permission. Chiron is the wounded healer, transforming pain into wisdom and strength. In Taurus, it provides healing of our tangible, physical, material, financial reality. Lilith and Chiron come together to help us see and understand that this push for growth from the universe is not to make you feel bad- its to help you step into a more authentic, joyful, stable life.
From July 13th through the 15th, Venus is the base of this Grand Kite, serving as an audit of what you love, how you love, your standards, the foundations of those standards, and what you spend time, energy, and money on. This audit asks one question- does this aid to or maintain a balanced, holistic wellbeing of self and community? If the answer is no, this Grand Kite will likely deliver a reckoning that forces you to start letting go of what no longer serves your and the greater good.
Then in the late afternoon of the 16th, the New Moon conjoins the South Node in Virgo and re-ignites this Grand Kite. With the Venus iteration of this Kite, we’re pushed to prune, weed, and aerate what no longer serves our garden of life. With the New Moon iteration of this Kite, we’re sowing seeds of truth, security and sovereignty into the compost of Mercury Retrograde.
Over the course of Mercury Retrograde, we have been guided to look to identify what was not "home" to us—what's false, misaligned, draining, performative, and built on shaky ground. This Grand Kite, which closes out this New Moon phase, is the moment we shift from mental and emotional review into internal and external systemic reconstruction. This reconstruction, and the reckonings which thrust us upon it, carries on over the next two weeks and brings us to Mercury stationing direct on July 23rd and the next Full Moon on July 29th. We have some really potent transits coming up after this New Moon cycle ends, so I suggest keeping up with your shadow work and being open to growth, seeing it all as an opportunities for evolution rather than chores.
