Libra Season Pt. 1: Mabon, the ♈️Aries 🌕Full Moon, ♂Mars in ♌️Leo, and ☿Mercury Pre-Rx + ♀Venus Rx in ♏️Scorpio

Happy Libra Season! Tapping into the balancing energy of the scales of Justice which it’s represented by, this Libra Season is all about realignment, and starts off with a huge bang with Mabon, the Aries Full Moon, Mars ingressing into Leo, Mercury ingressing into Scorpio as well as entering it’s 2.9 weeks long Pre-Retrograde Shadow Phase, and Venus stationing Retrograde in Scorpio. Let’s dive into it. 

Sun in Libra

Basics

As we discussed in my blog post “Virgo Season Pt.2”, “Libra is a cardinal (initiatory) air sign ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, creativity and harmony. This sign aims to accomplish balance, diplomacy, and the establishment of harmony, partnerships, and aesthetically pleasing balance through cooperation and relational fairness. Shadows involve indecisive codependency, superficial harmony, and conflict avoidance breeding resentment.”

The Sun represents the core self, vitality, and ego. It seeks to accomplish personal expression, leadership, and the establishment of individual identity and purpose. It’s a shining light on one’s unique self, path and creative potential. Shadows include ego inflation leading to arrogance, self-centered isolation, and burnout from over-identification with personal shine, ignoring collective needs. All of this is of course passed down to Leo, which it rules over.

The Sun will be in Libra from September 22nd through October 23rd, Because the Sun is exalted in Aries, it is in its fall in Libra. Libra’s cardinal air focus on diplomacy, compromise, and relational balance deflates the Sun’s self-assertion and individuality, challenging it’s nature and causing it to feel diminished, tied down, or even conflicted. Commonalities include initiatory energy, but differences force the Sun into humiliating concessions, struggling for recognition in a harmonious but ego-subduing environment. In Libra, the sun seeks harmonious diplomacy and balance, establishing identity through cooperation and openness. Shadows involve indecisiveness from people-pleasing, superficial charm hiding resentment, and loss of self in relational codependency. All of these shadows will be especially challenged, for the purposes of alchemization, as soon as the Sun ingresses into Libra. This is because of a couple things- the co-occurence of Mabon and a series of major aspect patterns, all of which are kicked off by the Sun’s ingress into Libra. 

Mabon

Mabon is the pagan sabbat which occurs on the Autumn Equinox, and is one of the eight pagan sabbats. While the days started getting shorter in June after the Summer Solstice (aka Litha), the amount of daylight and nightfall become equal during the Autumn Equinox. Technically Mabon was on the 22nd, however is felt about five days before and after. This time around will be felt longer, through the Full Moon cycle from 9/23-29 which peaks in Aries the 26th. 

Referring to one Edain McCoy’s classic pagan guide books titled “The Sabbats: A New Approach to Living the Old Ways”,

Mabon is named for the Welsh God under the same name “who symbolized the male[/yang] fertilizing principle in Welsh myths... as a Sabbat it went unobserved by (the English and Celts) until the Norse Invaders brought it to prominence…In China the day is known as Chung Chi’u and marks the end of rice harvest. Judaism celebrates Succoth around this time, another harvest holiday with pagan roots…In old Rome the equinox marked the infamous Festival of Dionysus…

The old Anglo-Celtic festival of Harvest Home, a respite from the work of harvesting and a celebration of thanks, probably once fell on Mabon. In remembrance of that time, Mabon is often referred to as the ‘Witches’ Thanksgiving’ and is one of the oldest harvest celebrations in Europe…the original Harvest Home festival featured many of the same activities that characterize Mabon. These include cider pressing, grain threshing, dancing, feasting, and the crowning of Harvest King and Queen that is still done in pagan circles. The King and Queen become the earthly vessels for the God[/Diving Yang] and Goddess[/Divine Yin] to reside in during the Mabon ritual and festivities…

Mabon is not only a time when night and day are equal, but all things are in balance for one brief moment. The Goddess[/Divine Yin] and the God[/Diving Yang] are thought to have equal power on this night, as well as the forces of good and evil…Mabon marks the end of the second harvest, a time when the majority of crops are gathered…Mabon, like its polar opposite, Ostara, is a time of balance. Only now, instead of looking outward to the coming summer, we begin looking inward, preparing ourselves for the winter to come.”

Fall is harvest time, when we gather what has grown and reflect on as well as show gratitude for our yeild. Winter is a time of pausing, storing, preserving, as well as root and soil care. Fall and winter are a time of reflection, retrospection and internal review. This fall and winter are no different. While Pluto Retrograde ends soon, from now through the end of the year we have five retrogrades- Neptune, Saturn, Uranus, Venus, and Chiron- on top of Mercury Retrograde later this month. 

As we step across this equilibrium point, we aren't just winding down for winter; we are stepping (or falling) directly into the pressure cooker of a complex series of aspect patterns and transits. This autumn isn't about passive reflection. It's a tactical, sovereign audit of everything we’ve grown, and it starts now. 

Sun in Libra Important Transits (9/22-10/3)

Like I said earlier, the Sun ingressing into Libra doesn’t just kick off Mabon, but a complex series of aspect patterns and transits, all of which are jam packed into 9 days. 

Mystic Rectangle

The first of these is a Mystic Rectangle. A Mystic Rectangle is a closed, rectangular aspect pattern consisting of exactly four planets. It is built upon two distinct oppositions (180-degree aspects), which form the "cross" or tension point in the middle. These oppositions are boxed in and connected by two sextiles (60-degree aspects) and two trines (120-degree aspects). The trines and sextiles act as alchemizing connectors, offering pathways to resolve the conflict generated by the oppositions. This is why Mystic Rectangles are known as master problem solvers. 

One of these oppositions is the Sun in Libra sitting in direct opposition to Neptune Retrograde in Aries. Again, In Libra, the Sun’s vitality and core self are focused outward on partnerships, negotiation, fairness, aesthetic balance and weighing opposites. Neptune retrograde on the other end is incredibly illuminating, clarifying any and all illusions. In Aries, these are illusions surrounding individualism, ego, overworking, burnout, independence, pioneering and "me-first" energy. The conflict of this opposition thus lies between maintaining “objective” relational harmony and the internal, boundary-less drive for bold, authentic, unabashed truth. This conflict, this Aries/Libra opposition with Neptune Rx and the aspect patterns that opposition has become a part of, have all come up before with Venus’ and Mercury’s movement through Libra since this last August. 

The other opposition in this Mystic Rectangle is the Mars at the end Cancer ingressing into Leo opposite Pluto Retrograde in Aquarius: Mars embodies action, desire, courage, and the establishment of personal will. As it moves from its fall in the emotionally initiatory realm of Cancer into the radiant, self-expressive, and commanding presence of Leo, it opposes Pluto Rx. Pluto works to accomplish deep evolution, regeneration, and the uncovering of hidden truths, and when in retrograde this is directed inward. In Aquarius, this intense evolution is directed toward innovation within groups, humanity, and future-oriented collectives. The tension between the two is the drive for personal, heartfelt recognition and the need for intense evolution.

Here’s where those alchemizing connectors come in. The Sun in Libra trines Pluto in Aquarius and sextiles Mars in Cancer/Leo, linking personal vitality and social balance with deep collective evolution and decisive action. Simultaneously, Neptune Rx in Aries trines Mars and sextiles Pluto Rx, blending spiritual clarity smoothly with personal will and deep evolutionary rebirth.

All together, this Mystic Rectangle is here to show us that in order to balance the scales personally and collectively, we must realign ourselves, our boundaries, and our lives with the upmost truth and the greater good of all. This Mystic Rectangle is the base of a Mystic Envelope which kicks in the day Mars enters Leo, on September 27th.  There’s a couple other things we have to cover first though. 

Grand Kite

When the Sun entered Libra, it didn’t just kick off the aforementioned Mystic Rectangle. It also immediately became the base of a Grand Kite. 

Using the same analogy as my last blog post, “Virgo Season pt. 2”, A great way to understand Grand Kites is to think of them as a cosmic slingshot. The Grand Trine— in this case, an Grand Air Trine between the Sun, Pluto Rx, and Uranus Rx— is the Elastic Band. While Grand Trines brings immense natural talent and luck, they can also breed complacency. Because the energy flows in a closed loop, there is no inherent pressure to do anything with it. It is like a high-quality, highly flexible rubber band sitting loosely on a table, full of potential, but entirely stationary. The base— in this case, the Sun— is the stone on the point of that rubber band pulled back by a hand making aim at its opposing target, gathering all the stress, friction, and raw motivation necessary to turn the potential energy of the Grand Trine into an attained goal. The goal is the apex— in this case, Neptune Retrograde. 

The Grand Air Trine represents the material properties and internal dynamic charge of the band itself. Uranus Rx provides high-voltage curiosity and adaptability, Pluto Rx provides progressive power and regenerative properties, and the Sun provides vitality and balance. The Sun holds a dual role as both part of the band's material composition and the exact point where the stone of this slingshot is pulled back. The goal of understanding dialogue, harmony, fairness, and refined discernment is attained at and through the qualities of Neptune Rx in Aries, because the apex represents the target, the release valve, and the physical manifestation of the entire configuration. Without this apex, the Air Grand Trine remains trapped in the head—an infinite loop of brilliant ideas, internal rewiring, and endless analysis. Neptune Rx in Aries is the exact outlet where that mental pressure transforms into real-world realization. It turns the intellectual brilliance of the Grand Trine into a higher calling—a creative, spiritual, or visionary breakthrough that resonates deeply on a transcendent level. 

We’ve had this Kite pop up as Venus and Mercury entered and moved through Libra. Venus was the base of this Kite from August 6th through 16th, and Mercury was the base of this Kite from September 11th through 16th. First iteration was based around Venusian themes of passion and love, second iteration was based around Mercurial themes of communication and intellect, this third iteration is based around Solar themes of the core self, ego and vitality. We’re likely to see/experience similar situations and energy as we did during those first two iterations of this Kite. This Grand Kite lasts through October 3rd, and connects with the aforementioned Mystic Rectangle to create a Mystic Envelope, again as soon as Mars enters Leo.

The 9/23-29 Full Moon Cycle

Basics

Full Moons are felt at least three days before and after it’s peak, meaning this Full Moon cycle began September 23rd and will end on the 29th. 

The Moon represents the innermost part of ourselves- our subconscious and intuition. The Moon also represents the nurturing mother, the divine feminine, the yin to the sun’s yang. The yin is said to represent darkness, the shadow, receptivity, intuition, and creative forces. The Moon’s gravitational pull is the driver of the earth’s tides, representing the emotional waters of our collective conscious and unconscious. All this was passed down to Cancer, which the Moon rules over. 

Full Moons represent power, success, and completion. It is the culmination point of what has been brewing and manifesting in life since the New Moon.

The Preumptive T-Wedge (9/25-27)

Two days into this Full Moon cycle, on September 25th, we reached the final phase of both Mars in Cancer and Mercury in Libra, starting with a T-Wedge involving both. A T-Wedge is an aspect pattern which combines a T-Square with a Wedge through one opposition, with both apexes in the same quadrant. The opposing planets in this case are Mercury at the end of Libra and Chiron Retrograde at the end of Aries. So in one corner we have the desire for harmonious, fair, diplomatic, aesthetically pleasing communication and intellectual processes. In the other, we have past trauma and pain surrounding agency, autonomy, independence, recklessness, impulsivity, self-centeredness, leadership and war-like conflict being reviewed and audited to be alchemized into wisdom. Once again, the conflict is maintaining “objective” relational harmony and the internal, drive for bold, authentic, unabashed truth. 

A T-Square is when two opposing planets are both squaring a third planet which becomes where all the tension is channeled and released, like steaming hot a release valve which would burn to the touch. In this case, both Mercury and Chiron Rx are squaring Mars at the end of Cancer. Mars in Cancer is deeply tied to personal and emotional security, only heightening the mental and emotional tension between Mercury in Libra and Chiron Rx in Aries. 

A Wedge aspect pattern is also on the back of an opposition, only this time the apex is making beneficial aspects to both opposing planets- trining one planet and sextiling the other-making for a more alchemical relief and release result rather than steaming hot tension. In this case, the Wedge Apex is the South Node in Leo. The South Node is an astrological point marking past karmic patterns, innate talents, and comfortable habits that must be purged or integrated. In Leo (a Fixed Fire sign ruled by the Sun), it carries the imprint of royalty, dramatic self-expression, pride, visibility, and the demand for personal recognition.

The wedge apex brings relief to both opposing planets- trines are a bit more harmonious and flowing, making sextiles just tense enough for opportunities while still harmonious in its own right. The Chiron Rx-South Node trine highlights the importance of learning from your past, and the Mercury-South Node sextile shows us the opportunities from doing this from a place of balanced truth. The Wedge Apex within this T-Wedge, aka South Node in Leo does not resolve the volatile tension of the T-Square Apex within this T-Wedge, aka Mars in Cancer, directly. Instead, it offers an alchemical exit door from the central opposition itself. Rather than reacting out of emotional defensiveness, the energy is released by tapping into innate Leo creative sovereignty, letting go of ego-driven validation, and allowing past artistic authority to harmonize the spiritual and relational tug-of-war. While this T-Wedge only lasts a couple days (Sept. 25-27), it’s an important energetic build up to the astrology detailed in the rest of this blog post. 

The Full Moon’s Peak

Basics-Aries Full Moon (9/26)

This brings us to the peak of this Full Moon cycle, which is at the beginning of Aries. In Aries, the Moon mixes its receptive instincts with cardinal fire’s bold assertion. Commonalities are initiating energy and protective courage; differences arise from Aries’s direct heat quickening the Moon’s emotions into reactive flares, lacking earth’s stability, resulting in dynamic but volatile intuition. It seeks instinctive courage and quick emotional responses, establishing inner security through independent action and bold intuition. Shadows include impulsive tantrums, selfish emotional demands, and quick anger flares, disrupting inner comfort. All of this will influence all of the astrology we have and will discuss in this blog post. That’s because as soon as the Full Moon enters Aries, it conjoins Neptune Rx, bringing some emotional passion and ferocity to all of the challenging, intensifying, alchemical, interconnected aspect patterns we’re discussing. 

Mars’ Ingress into Leo

(Ingress is on 9/27; relevant transits are from 9/27-10/13; Mars stays in Leo through 11/25)

Basics- Mars in Leo

In the evening of September 27th, The day after the peak of the Full Moon, Mars leaves its detriment in Cancer and ingresses into Leo. Mars will be in Leo from September 27th through November 25th. 

Like I said earlier, Mars represents action, desire, and courage. It aims to accomplish assertion, competition, as well as the establishment of personal will, drive, and conquest through bold initiatives and overcoming challenges. Shadows include destructive aggression, impulsive rage, power abuses, channeling drive into conflicts and burnout. All of this is passed down to Aries, which it solely rules over, and Scorpio, which it co-rules with Pluto.

Leo is a fixed fire sign, ruled by the Sun, as we discussed. It seeks to accomplish creativity, self-expression, and the establishment of recognition, generosity, and dramatic presence through heartfelt performance and loyalty. Shadows include arrogant drama, entitlement demands, and prideful ego blocking authenticity

In Leo, Mars dramatizes its drive with fixed fire’s generous leadership. Commonalities are bold conquest and heartfelt competition; differences highlight Leo’s ego fixing Mars’s action into loyal performance, leading to charismatic but prideful initiatives. Here, Mars seeks to accomplish dramatic desire and generous competition, establishing will through loyal conquest and heartfelt initiatives. Shadows manifest as prideful dominance, theatrical tantrums, and ego-driven competitions. 

Because Mars rules Aries, it currently rules over Neptune Rx & Saturn Rx. To learn what that means for those transits, check out my Neptune Rx & Saturn Rx guide. This means that Mars also rules over the Aries Full Moon. Furthermore, Mars is the beating heart of the entire aspect grid, making its high-stakes ingress into Leo the precise mechanical spark that transforms our raw emotional reckoning into undeniable, sovereign visibility. Now, we get into the beef of this Full Moon cycle. 

Aries Full Moon + Mars Ingress into Leo Important Transits

Mystic Envelope (9/27—30)

As Mars enters Leo, it stays locked into all the aspect patterns we’ve discussed- the Mystic Rectangle, the Grand Kite, and the T-Wedge- and begins to sextile Uranus Rx in Gemini. In doing so, it transforms the aforementioned Mystic Rectangle into a Mystic Envelope, with Uranus Rx as its Apex.

A Mystic Envelope aspect pattern is a Mystic Rectangle combined with a Minor Triangle. Like we discussed, Mystic Rectangles combine two oppositions through trines and sextiles to usher in major problem solving. A Minor Triangle is when two trining planets sextile one third planet which becomes the focal point where all the harmonious energy is channeled. The Minor Triangle Apex becomes the Apex of the entire Mystic Envelope, productively channeling that problem solving energy into sudden opportunities, harmonious resolutions, or bursts of inspiration that lead to creative output.

By combining the aforementioned Mystic Rectangle and Grand Kite, all the extreme pressure from the two aspect patterns is harmoniously funneled into Uranus Retrograde.

Referring to my blog post “Virgo Season Pt. 2”,  “Where direct Uranus shatters external paradigms, Uranus retrograde creates space to process the aftershocks and audit where true freedom lives within your own psyche. Instead of clashing with external structures, energy focuses on dismantling personal conditioning, internal dogmas, and habituated responses. It exposes where our drive for independence is genuine self-liberation versus reactionary contrarianism. In Gemini, Uranus retrograde acts as an internal circuit breaker, prompting us to question subconscious biases, mental loops, and automated communication habits.” Thus, this Full Moon and the aspect patterns we’re discussing are to help us discern which ideas, goals, and core beliefs are progressive and which are outdated and stagnant. Keep in mind, the beginning of this entire lunar cycle, the September 10th New Moon, rang in this Uranus retrograde cycle. This makes this culmination point especially important.

Grand Cross (9/27-10/5) + Nodal Rectangle (9/27-10/3)

This culmination point doesn’t stop there though. As Mercury reaches the end of Libra, the aforementioned T-Wedge transforms into two interconnected aspect patterns- a Grand Cross and a Nodal Rectangle. 

A Grand Cross involves four planets (let's call them A, B, C, and D) in a closed loop. Planet A opposes C, and Planet B opposes D.Every adjacent planet squares its neighbor (A to B, B to C, C to D, and D to A).If you take any three consecutive planets in that ring (for example, A, B, and C with D ignored), you get a classic T-Square. Because there are four different combinations of three planets in a four-point square, the full pattern houses four overlapping T-squares. Unlike a T-Square—which has an open leg that acts as an easy release outlet—the Grand Cross is completely sealed, trapping energy inside a pressure cooker which demands action. 

One of these oppositions is the Mercury-Chiron Rx opposition we discussed earlier, a direct energetic standoff between establishing objective balance and serving individual will. The other opposition is between Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius, further highlighting the Mercury-Chiron Rx opposition through a battle between personal will and collective evolution. Due to the dual modality nature of this Grand Cross (Aries and Libra are Cardinal signs, Leo and Aquarius are Fixed signs), this Grand Cross brings a combination of initiatory friction and stubborn resistance.

A Nodal Rectangle is the same shape as a Mystic Rectangle, however instead of two oppositions, it has one opposition and the nodal axis as the other "opposition". I put opposition in quotation marks there because the nodal axis is and cannot be an opposition, the two points are always on the opposite end of each other on one axis, aka the nodal axis. While mystic rectangles are problem solvers, nodal rectangles elevates this dynamic to a spiritual and evolutionary level, specifically focusing on resolving karmic loops, past-life patterns, and overall future direction. 

This Nodal Rectangle also contains that Mercury-Chiron Rx opposition, and offers some an alchemical healing through the Nodal Axis. With the North Node in Aquarius and South Node in Leo, the healing medicine of this Nodal Rectangle is to understand that personal expression and sovereignty is not lost in collectivism, but needed for collectivism, as it is inherently tied to collective innovation and evolution.

Post Full Moon Transits

This brings us to the end of this Full Moon cycle and the astrological movement immediately following. 

Grand Cradle

On September 30th, the aforementioned Mystic Envelope dissipates, leaving a Grand Cradle off the back of the Mars-Pluto opposition. Like I stated earlier, this opposition pits the sovereign individual ego against massive, transformative collective currents. Serving as the dual apexes of this Cradle, Neptune Retrograde in Aries and Uranus Retrograde in Gemini provide profound clarity by fusing bold authentic vision with sudden, unconventional intellectual breakthroughs.

The transition from Mystic Envelope to Grand Cradle marks a profound shift from active pressure into a supportive landing container. Lasting through the entire next New Moon phase and thus initiating the next Lunar Cycle, this Cradle will help us process the seismic breakthroughs of the Aries Full Moon and Mars ingress. Just like the Libra/Aries Grand Kite, we experienced this Grand Cradle twice times already this year- from June 13th through 19th when Venus was in Leo and from June 30th through August 11th when Jupiter entered Leo, on top of which the Sun conjoined Jupiter from July 23rd through August 3rd when the it entered Leo. Whatever came up in those periods of time is bound to arise again. This Grand Cradle lasts through October 13th. 

Mercury Ingress into Scorpio + Stationing Pre-Rx Shadow

That same day (September 30th), Mercury ingresses into Scorpio. Five days later, Mercury governs communication, intellect, and adaptability. It strives to accomplish mental agility, learning, and the establishment of connections through exchange of ideas, commerce, and rational problem-solving. Shadows involve deceptive communication, overthinking paralysis, and superficial intellect, scattering rationality into misinformation or anxiety.

Mercury deepens its rationality with fixed water’s transformative intensity, like a traveler in hidden depths. Commonalities include investigative links and resilient thought; differences stem from Scorpio’s secrecy intensifying Mercury’s adaptability into probing analysis, without dignity, fostering powerful but suspicious intellect. Here, Mercury seeks to accomplish investigative depth and transformative agility, establishing connections through intense ideas and resilient problem-solving. Shadows include secretive suspicion, vengeful words, and obsessive rumination. When in Retrograde, all this is turned inward. This means this Mercury Retrograde will focus on deep psychological processing, investigative or secretive communication, transformational thinking, and a heightened vulnerability to mental shadow elements like overthinking or intense internal scrutiny. 

Mercury Retrogrades are famous for issues and delays in communication, technology, and travel. The Pre-Shadow Retrograde period is a 2.9 week preview of what Mercury Retrograde will bring us. Whatever Mercury in Scorpio themed challenges that come up throughout the next three weeks is thus bound to come up to be addressed and healed when Mercury stations Retrograde. 

Venus Stations Retrograde

On October 3rd, Venus stations Retrograde. Like I said in my blog post “Virgo Season Pt. 2”, “Venus is the planet of love, beauty, creativity and harmony. It seeks pleasure, relationships, passion, art, aesthetic balance, and unions through diplomacy and sensual enjoyment. Shadows emerge as indulgent hedonism, relational codependency, superficiality, and compromising values for pleasure. We can see these qualities exemplified by Libra (as we discussed) and Taurus, which Venus rules over. 

Scorpio is a fixed water sign, co-ruled by Mars (hellenistic/traditional) and Pluto (modern). Mars represents action, desire, courage, assertion, drive, and aggression. Pluto represents power, intensity, regeneration, the underworld, death, rebirth, evolution and deep shadows. Scorpio seeks transformation as well as the establishment of truth, power, and emotional resilience through investigation and regeneration. Shadows emerge as jealous obsession, vengeful secrecy, and destructive power distorting resilience. 

Because it sits opposite of Taurus, one of Venus’s domicile’s, Venus is in detriment in Scorpio. Scorpio’s fixed water can easily turn harmony possessive. Commonalities include intensity, but differences scatter pleasure in mysterious passion or aggression, requiring indirect methods. Commonalities encompass water’s emotional resilience and unifying flow. In Scorpio, Venus seeks to accomplish authentic, transformative connection and intense, deep beauty, establishing unions through regenerative sensuality and power. Differences arise from Scorpio’s fixed depth. Shadows manifest as controlling tendencies, vengefulness, obsession, and possessiveness.

When Venus turns retrograde, the energy of connection, aesthetics, and self-worth turns inward. It acts as a relational and financial audit: external charm slows down so you can evaluate whether your partnerships, values, and boundary structures are grounded in genuine depth or superficial convenience…[Retrograding through] fixed water and detriment…deepens [the intensity of this Retrograde] significantly. The issues shift from surface imbalance to unspoken power dynamics, trust issues, possessiveness, suppressed desires, or intense triggers and conflict. [Expect] what is secretly lurking beneath the surface of your connections [to be revealed]. Because Venus in Scorpio cannot rely on easy charm, the retrograde forces a metamorphosis. It takes the codependency or superficiality of Venus’ shadows and subjects it to Scorpio's fire of truth, burning away attachments that lack integrity.
